Happy Sunday Fiber Facts!
Let’s talk bamboo.
Bamboo is already considered to be a sustainable plant for a number of applications because of its fast growing nature and relative drought tolerance. From building to clothing, and of course my favs, fibers and textiles; this rhizome has it all!
The bamboo is harvested after four years of growth, crushed, then soaked in natural enzymes or ionic salts. Once extracted from the soaking bath the fibers are softened. Next the bamboo is mechanically combed and spun into roving or yarn. It’s one of my favorite fibers to spin because of the the dense texture.
